Hockey is a game played at high speed, however, when initially acquiring coordinated movement skills, it’s valuable to slow down and attempt to execute the skills through the proper movement range (known as “underspeed” training). Once a level of proficiency is attained, it then becomes important to practice increasing the speed of execution in a variable, random manner. Execution in a game-like context is the goal.
